For the 2017 model year, Chevrolet unveiled the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport at the Geneva Auto Show. The all-new 2017 Corvette Grand Sport was the culmination of the car’s motorsports-bred pedigree. Like the 2015 Corvette C7.R Pro race car, the new Grand Sport combined a lightweight architecture, a track-honed aerodynamics package, Michelin tires and a naturally aspirated 6.2L V-8 engine, delivering 460 HP.
Like so many Corvette models before it, the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport would also be offered to consumers in a special Collector’s Edition package. The Grand Sport Collector Edition Corvette also featured an exclusive Watkins Glen Gray Metallic exterior with Tension Blue hash-mark graphics, satin black, full-length stripes, black wheels and a unique Tension Blue full leather and suede wrapped interior.
The choice to wrap the interior of the car in Tension Blue – which some considered an unconventional color choice – actually pays homage to the color hue historically associated with the Corvette Grand Sport Corvette. To further tie the current Grand Sport to its ancestry, a three-dimensional representation of the original Grand Sport race car is embossed in the headrests of the Collector Edition’s seats. It is also used on the instrument panel plaque that carries the car’s unique build sequence number – marking it as a true collector’s edition car.
