John Greenwood, renowned as a master engine builder and race car driver, is credited with the creation of the “Greenwood Wide-Body” C3 race car. This distinctive vehicle combined exaggerated bodywork, a patriotic livery, and a notably powerful V8 engine, showcasing Chevrolet’s increasing dominance in international racing and maintaining the prominence of the American Sports Car.
Originally, this 1969 Corvette was transformed into a Greenwood-bodied race car during the early ’70s. It is believed to have made its debut as a Greenwood team car in 1975, driven by Rick Mancuso and Burt Greenwood. Subsequently, in the following year, Art Siri acquired the car and continued to race it in SCCA events until the conclusion of the 1979 season and remained in competition until 1988 despite being rebodied twice as a roadster and as a fastback.
Today, this C3 Corvette race car retains the Greenwood bodystyle and livery. It is equipped with a 454ci V8, skillfully built by Paolo Engine Service, and paired with a modified Tex Racing four-speed manual transmission.
