Corvette Of The Day: 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Replica

1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Replica

The original Corvette Grand Sport has a compelling history. In the early 1960s, Zora Arkus-Duntov aimed to create a lightweight, exceptionally fast Corvette with the ultimate goal of winning the GT class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The production target was set at 125 units to comply with homologation rules, however, only five were ever produced.

The Corvette you see here is one of the 121 Grand Sport Replicas built by Mongoose Motorsports for the production of the Fast Five movie released in 2011 and this is one of just three known to exist today, as well as one of only two designated as “jump cars” and equipped with an air-cooled Volkswagen engine and a 4-speed manual transmission.

Finished in bright silver with a flurry of custom touches such as a cut-down and scaled-back wraparound windscreen, various vents and scoops, and the signature Grand Sport elements, the Corvette Grand Sport has long been heralded as one of the most memorable cars of the franchise. The steering wheel center piece is emblazoned with “The Fast and the Furious” logo and the single seat looks fantastic, while the revised dashboard is a remarkable setting for the various gauges and toggle switches.
