If you are like us, then you are probably waiting anxiously to see just what the future of Corvette Racing looks like. We are happy to report that the future looks BRIGHT!
Pratt Miller Motorsports (PMM) recently shared images of the latest Corvette race car that will compete in the 2024 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The car, which was previously introduced as the 2024 Corvette Z06 GT3.R, looks iconic in its classic “Corvette Yellow” livery, and we’re more than elated that the PMM race team will continue to represent the Corvette Racing program in such iconic fashion throughout the entirety of the 2024 IMSA race season.
Although the Z06 GT3.R looks a lot like the outgoing Corvette Racing C8.R racecar that completed throughout the 2023 season, there have been considerable changes made to the car behind the scenes. First and foremost, the Corvette Racing facotry program “closed its doors” at the end of the season, and were officially replaced by the Pratt Miller-run race program for the forseeable future (beginning with the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona in January 2024). The Z06 GT3.R will still race in the GTD Pro category, and they’ll have a mostly familiar lineup of favorite drivers piloting the new Corvette Racing program. The four full-time drivers for the PMM Corvette Racing program are: Nicky Catsburg, Antonio Garcia, Tommy Milner and Alexander Sims.
The team will now be called “Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports”. Although not a Chevrolet-sponsored team, the CRPMM team will still receive factory support, though the amount of support will be diminshed as compared to years past. One of the big questions that has yet to be answered is where the connection between the Corvette production model and race car intersect. As before, the Z06 GT3.R will be powered by a 5.5-liter naturally aspirated flat-plane-craknk V8 engine that has been derived directly from the production Z06 program.
“The Corvette Z06 GT3.R breaks new ground for Chevrolet and the Corvette Racing program,” GM Motorsports Engineering Competition direct Mark Stielow said in a statement earlier this year. “This customer-focused race car leverages learnings from throughout Corvette Racing’s lengthy and successful history, plus the expertise of our Corvette production design, engineering and powertrain teams.”
A previously mentioned, the new Z06 GT3.R will make its racing debut at the 2024 Rolex 24 At Daytona, IMSA’s season-opener event. Corvsport.com will be present for the full 24-hour event, and we cannot wait to see what the new racing program will accomplish in the coming 2024 race season. We know this much – we’re beyond excited to support Pratt Miller Motorsports in the coming year and we suspect that they’ll make the transition seamlessly, leading Corvette Racing (by PMM) to another championship in 2024!
