Hot Laps In The All-New Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray – Edmunds Cars

While some enthusiasts may find a hybrid Corvette sacrilegious to the iconic Corvette name, the electrified 2024 Corvette E-Ray has finally arrived to prove its haters wrong. Based on the mid-engine C8 Corvette Z06 platform, the new Corvette E-Ray retains the 6.2L LT2 small-block V8 engine. However, the vehicle also incorporates electrified technologies that significantly enhance torque, straight-line performance, all-weather confidence, and overall touring capabilities, creating a Corvette suitable for driving anywhere, at any time, regardless of the season.

Offered in both coupe and convertible formats, the Corvette E-Ray combines the substantial power and torque of the 495 horsepower/470 lb-ft LT2 engine with an electric motor delivering an additional 160 horsepower and 125 lb-ft through the car’s front wheels via a 1.8 kWh battery pack. This combination results in a total output of 655 horsepower and more torque than any preceding Corvette.

The result is a Corvette that can accelerate from 0-60 in a mere 2.5 seconds, reaching well over 100 miles per hour in just a few seconds more. It also boasts a verified quarter-mile time of just 10.5 seconds. Now, these are hypercar numbers for a car that comes with a base price of $104,495.

To test the full capabilities of the all-new E-Ray, Kurt Niebuhr from Edmunds Cars took it to the track and put it through its paces for a few hot laps around Pikes Peak International Raceway.
