Corvette Of The Day: 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Replica by D&D Motors

The 1963 Corvette Grand Sport was designed to compete with the Shelby Cobra and Ferrari GTO in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. However, only five out of the planned 125 models were ever produced. Dean Hoskins and Dante Lombardi of D&D Motors created replica molds based on the original blueprint of chassis #005, resulting in a total of 40 kits.

This particular example is a blue 1963 Corvette with a racing livery numbered #50. It features a custom-built D&D Corvette fiberglass body mounted on a black powder-coated 4″ tube chassis. The exterior is equipped with widened fender flares, a vented hood, plexiglass headlight covers, low-noise side-exit exhaust pipes, rear quarter ducts, and Halibrand-style wheels with knock-off spinners fitted with Goodyear Blue Line tires.

Inside, the car has two custom fiberglass seats upholstered in blue vinyl, accompanied by a custom 6-point roll cage and 5-point harness belts. The interior also includes custom carpets with Dynamat insulation, Autometer instrumentation, an Ididit tilt steering column, and a heater/defroster.

Powering the car is a 454ci GM crate engine, capable of producing up to 425 HP and 500 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven through a Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission with a Hurst shifter and a Dana 44 rear differential. The Grand Sport replica features Corvette suspension, upgraded front and rear sway bars, and polyurethane bushings for improved performance.

Additional performance upgrades consist of a 32-gallon fuel cell, TRACO-style big-block Chevrolet valve covers, a Sweet Steering rack and pinion, a Holley 750CFM carburetor, a March serpentine pulley system, an aluminum radiator, and electric cooling fans.
