Ford and Chevy have been locked in a heated rivalry for decades, with the Mustang and Camaro often going head-to-head. However, the Corvette has long stood apart as Chevy’s halo performance car, evolving from a muscle-bound bruiser into a world-class sports car. In recent years, the Corvette has competed more with European exotics, but that doesn’t mean the classic Ford vs. Chevy battle is dead. It’s always a spectacle when a Mustang and a Corvette meet at the dragstrip.
The Mustang and Corvette rivalry goes back decades. While the Mustang was introduced in 1964 as an affordable pony car, the Corvette had already established itself as America’s sports car. Over the years, Ford’s top-tier Mustangs—like the Boss 429, SVT Cobra, and Shelby GT500—have taken on various Corvette models in an ongoing battle of horsepower and performance. Though the Corvette has traditionally been faster, Mustangs have always fought back with raw power, aggressive styling, and underdog appeal.
Now, the battle continues with the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse. Sporting a bold name but a modest 14-hp boost over the GT, it cranks out 500 hp from its naturally aspirated 5.0L V8. The 6-speed manual rockets from 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds, while the 10-speed automatic cuts that down to 3.7 seconds.
Going up against it is the C8 Corvette Stingray, Chevy’s mid-engine masterpiece. With 495 hp from its 6.2L LT2 V8, the Stingray’s rear-weighted design gives it an advantage in traction and balance. These two American icons showed up at New Jersey’s Island Dragway and raced against each other in a quarter mile, so be sure to watch the video to find out who came out on top!
