2020 Corvette C8 Versus 2020 Porsche 911: Launch Control [VIDEO]

Corvette C8 vs Porsche 911

Another video was recently suggested to us as an interesting point of comparison.

Posted by YouTube user Saeed Alghamdi, the video in question shows Type 992 Porsche 911 Carrera’s launching versus Corvette C8‘s launching at the Spring Mountain race track.

The video does bring up a few interesting points of comparison.

Firstly, noise. Porsche has had to severely clamp down on their emissions for the Euro 5 and Euro 6 emissions regulations, and it dulls the sound of the 911’s engine some.

The Corvette, on the other hand, gives a hearty roar as is launches, what you’d expect from some American muscle.

This brings us to the second point. Despite the noise and the theater of it, the Porsche’s do look to be pulling away faster, with less wheel spin.

For comparison’s sake, one of the best launches of the Porsche comes from a 911 Carrera 4 S, which has 443 HP and all wheel drive.

The 2020 Corvette C8, on the other hand, has 490 HP going through only the rear wheels.

The power difference is not overly surprising, with the Corvette having two extra cylinders over the Porsche.

The difference in acceleration, however slight, is more than likely down to the Porsche having more of its weight directly over and on the rear axle. Mechanical grip from the weight of the engine, added to the fact that all four wheels grip and go, seem to give it the edge.

That said, the Corvette C8 is only about one or two tenths slower to the eye, which is still very respectable as the 911 Carrera 4 S starts at $120,000, while the Corvette is exactly half that price for the base model.
