We’ve featured a few quarter-mile, standing mile, and top speed runs on Corvsport in the past. However, we’ve never seen one quite like this.
A 2002 Corvette C5 Z06, with prototype performance parts and unpainted carbon fiber rear quarter panels. Oh, and it’s punching out 900 wheel HP. And 850 lbs-ft of wheel torque.
In other words, bye bye rear tires!
Two things make this video special. One, it’s a Corvette that breaks through 200 MPH in the standing mile.
And the second thing is that their are doing this test on the old space shuttle landing strip. What that means is that you get as close to absolutely perfect sea-level conditions.
And the fact that the runway is 3.22 miles long, so if you wanted to go for a top speed test, you’d have plenty of space!
What really impresses is just how linear the power is. No plateaus or torque dropoff through to about 150, when air resistance starts to slow down the acceleration.
Still, breaking through 200 MPH before reaching the mile marker makes this one speedy little ‘Vette!
