The arrival of the 1974 Chevy Corvette occurred during an abysmal period in automotive history. The period in question actually began in October 1973 when OAPEC, (the Arab members of OPEC (the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) plus Egypt, Syria, and Tunisia) proclaimed an oil embargo against the United States after the United States came to the aid of the Israelis during a military altercation between Egypt, Syria, and Israel.

Hello Cameron,
I enjoyed the trip down memory lane checking out the the 74′ Vette. Back in April of 1974 I was a 20 year old young man that loved cars and had to decide between a Z28 and a L82 Corvette. The Z won out-and I have it to this day. I have one correction- the 1974 L82 did not have mechanical valve lifters, it had a flat tappet hydraulic cam. Same exact engine as the 1974 Z28 Camaro. The solid lifters were done away with after 1972 in the Corvette and Z28.
Best Regards,
Mike
