There were virtually no physical or mechanical changes made to the 1972 Corvette from the previous year. Despite the limited changes Chevy was still able to have a strong sales and production year with a total of 27,004 Corvettes made for that model year.

The coupe continued to outsell the convertible and grew its domination of the product mix. 20,496 coupes were made (76% of all cars produced). 6,508 convertible units were made (24% of all cars produced).
