1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe Race Car Up For Auction

Equipped with a fuel-injected 327 cu-in V8

The 1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe is one of the most iconic American sports cars, but this particular example carries a rich racing history that sets it apart. Originally purchased by Billy Fortune as a young enthusiast, the car quickly transitioned from a street machine to a full-fledged race car.

The Corvette was fitted with a fuel-injected 327 cu-in V8 paired with a 1969 M22 “Rock Crusher” four-speed manual transmission, and Koni shocks. Further modifications included disc brakes, F41 heavy-duty springs, larger sway bars, a roll bar, and interior weight reduction. The car received a light metallic blue paint job and was ready for the 1972 SCCA New York Region B-Production Championship.

Tragically, Fortune passed away in 1973, and the car remained in his family’s possession for 40 years before being rediscovered by Bruce Silber in 2009. In 2015, it underwent a frame-off restoration by Vette Dreams and a more recent engine rebuild and mechanical refurbishment by Autosport Designs.

With its historic racing pedigree and period-correct preservation, this Split Window Corvette is a rare time capsule. It has been featured on the cover of Corvette Magazine (October 2018) and remains a candidate for prestigious events like The Amelia Concours d’Elegance.

This legendary Corvette is set to go under the hammer at Broad Arrow Groups’ Amelia Auction 2025 next month. With an estimated value of up to $140,000 USD, this is a unique opportunity for collectors to own a piece of racing history.
